Intent on filling a blank space in the mobile gaming market, Taylor Swift is developing her own smartphone game and hopes to release it before the end of the year.
On Wednesday, Glu Mobile — the company behind the wildly successful "Kim Kardashian: Hollywood" game — announced that it has inked a "multi-year" contract with the superstar musician. Swift's game will likely follow a template similar to Kardashian's, plying players with in-app purchases though in a statement provided to Reuters from Glu promised to deliver a "new and highly differentiated gaming experience," possibly shaking off its previous reputation.
If celebrity-focused games like these never go out of style, Swift stands to make millions. Kardashian's game famously grossed over $74 million in 2014; At its peak, it was pulling in around $700,000 every day.
Since then, Glu has partnered with a host of celebrities with large social media followings, including Kendall and Kylie Jenner, Britney Spears, Nicki Minaj, Jason Statham, and Gordon Ramsay. Interestingly, known Swift antagonist Katy Perry is also a Glu partner, although it's unlikely a shared financial stake in a third party will help the two move past any bad blood.
